ROF Website: Update

  • Nov. 30th, 2009 at 6:15 PM

Well, Warren has let the cat out of the bag, so I'll mention something too. The new website for RoF should be unveiled late this week or early next week. Keep an eye out, and when it's up I'll be sure to mention something here.

ROF: Website Stuff

  • Nov. 8th, 2009 at 2:05 PM

So as some of you may be aware, long after Sovereign Media took down their website for Realms of Fantasy, the old message board remained up and running.  To be honest, it was mostly a ghost town near the end, but some of the regulars still stopped by from time to time.  But earlier this week the message board was taken down.  In case anyone is curious, Warren had nothing to do with this.  The old message board was still owned by Sovereign Media.  As to why it remained up and running for so long after they sold the magazine, who can say?  Perhaps the site was already paid for until this point.  Maybe it was such a negligible expense they didn't even know they were still paying for it until now.

Regardless, the old message board is gone and another cord has been snipped from the Sovereign Media days.  To those who might be upset, we're very sorry.  I don't have much to do with the new website's design/construction, but I am told that plans for this are still in place and proceeding.  Hopefully we'll have more than a placeholder site for you to visit soon.  So keep your eyes peeled.  And I'm sure it comes as no surprise that when the new site is unveiled, I will of course post about and link to it from here.

Realms on Twitter

  • Sep. 11th, 2009 at 1:26 PM

All right you Twitter freaks.  Let me mention that Realms of Fantasy has joined the Twitter movement: http://twitter.com/realmsoffantasy

Right now I personally am not a Twitter man.  The account is being run by Jeff Kight, our advertising director.  He'll be posting tidbits about his side of the magazine, and I'll be providing him links to the various things about the magazine that I post about here on lj.  Maybe at some point in the future I'll become more active with this account, but for right now I won't be too involved with this.  Still, I wanted to mention it.

Goodbye Slush Site

  • Apr. 28th, 2009 at 2:34 PM

Yesterday my brother alerted me that geocities is closing down.  This is where Carina Gonzelez maintained her old slush site back when she was assistant editor at RoF.  The information there is very dated at this point, though I have referenced her site on occasion here on my blog.  Anyway, you'll probably be able to look at some of it through the wayback machine after it's gone, but I don't know if the information there will be complete.  So I'm providing you all the link to her site for what I imagine is the final time in case you'd like to poke around.

Goodbye, slush site!

ROF Website: Update

Warren has reported on his blog that the ROF website is now equipped to handle the international crowd.  He's also updated the website to reflect that the next issue will come out in July, not May.

ROF: Electronic Edition?

Have your say here.  Warren is also considering putting out annual trade paperbacks and possibly hardcovers that collect all six issues into one volume.  Let him know what you think.  It all sounds good to me, Warren!

ROF on Facebook

  • Mar. 12th, 2009 at 12:08 PM

Hi Guys,

As some of you might be aware, soon after RoF folded, a Save RoF Movement popped up online, both on LJ and Facebook.  Well, Warren has given the moderators for this movement over at Facebook the thumbs up to turn this page into the magazine's offical fan group on Facebook.  So the Facebook group is now called Fans of Realms of Fantasy Magazine.

The moderators did such an excellent job with this site when it was started to save RoF, so I imagine/hope they'll continue to oversee things for a long time.  I'd also like to take a moment to publically thank them for all of their efforts.  You guys rock!  Now that RoF is indeed saved, I'm glad there is still an excellent use for your group.

Right now the group is at 475 members (including Shawna, not sure about Warren).  Feel free to join.

And just the other day I was asking everyone whether I should join Facebook.  This is the most compelling argument so far.  But I won't be joining just yet.  I have too much else to do right now before I'm caught up with the magazine!
