First Day, Beers, and KGB

So yesterday was my first day at the new job. I was really tired, because my body still needs to adjust to these new hours, so it took me a while to fall asleep the night before. But I had all that frenetic energy you bring to a new job on day 1, so I managed just fine. I also had business in the city later that day, so I needed to kill some time after work let out. But it turns out one of my best friends works a few blocks from my new spot, so I got together with him and we kicked back a few beers. (Today he called me again, wanting to do the same--I sense a ritual forming). Afterwards I walked downtown to the KGB Bar, a spot in NYC that features many monthly readings. Once there, I found a writer or two far more hammered than I was, including an unnamed culprit from my critique group. I can only hope s/he slept it off. Jeffrey Ford & Nick Mamatas were reading this month, and all night long John Joseph Adams, aka the Slushgod, kept trying to convince me to change my nickname from slushmaster to slushmonster. Cute, but I'm afraid I must remain the master.
After the reading we adjourned to some top-tier Chinese food, and I didn't get to sleep until 1:00 a.m. Then I had to roll out of bed for work before 7:00 a.m. Bottom line: I'm pooped!
